Live Like A Millionaire On A Modest Budget

Published

on

It’s true that in many large metropolitan areas, the cost of living is insanely high, and only the wealthiest can live there.

However, there are many other parts of the world—and exceedingly pleasant and fascinating ones at that—where a more modest income can still net you an awesome lifestyle

Be poor no more. The following are just a few of them:

A Beach Condo in Costa Rica Can Be Bought for as Little as $75,000

costa rica

Want to live near the beach, hear the ocean every day, feel that incomparable sea breeze?

In Costa Rica, it’s possible and—according to Investopedia—for as little as $2,000 a month.

That quote is not just rent, either—that’s the entire cost of living in Costa Rica, all wrapped up in a $2000 per month figure.

The country is bursting with natural water formations—including waterfalls—for those who love the sound of running water in nature.

Living there would be very much like being on vacation all the year round.

Perhaps best of all is Caja—the medical system for all citizens, legal residents, and expatriates.

For a monthly fee that’s generally between $60 and $120, you get all of your medical care—including surgeries—at no extra charge.

Spain Ranks In The Top Ten Countries For Quality Of Life—And Many Parts Of It Are Thoroughly Affordable

costa del sol

Spain’s Costa Del Sol comes highly recommended as a place to hang one’s hat.

It has exceptionally temperate weather, all the attractions of a coastal area, and is in a great location for taking short (think weekend) trips to other parts of Europe.

A large portion of the population already speaks English, meaning that even if you’re not great with languages, you should still be able to get along just fine.

Better yet, the AARP claims that a person can live comfortably there for $25,000 a year.

That’s barely above the poverty level for a four-person household in the United States.

Not bad at all if you’re looking for a comfortable retirement.

Malta Is The Island Paradise That Speaks Your Language

malta

The official language of Malta is English—so again, if language-learning is not your thing, you will have no problems navigating, making friends, and carrying out business transactions.

The weather is also warm, the diving is great, and you have access to European healthcare.

Rents in the capital city start at around $450 per month—far lower than the rent in many United States’ cities.

It is also ridiculously easy to hop a flight to Paris or Rome for the weekend or longer.

All in all, it’s no wonder that Malta is a growing tourist destination.

Portugal Boasts Four Diverse Cities To Retire To:

portugal

  • Lagos: A tourist city with cobbled streets, open-air jazz, and proximity to the beaches.
  • Lisbon: The capital city, where you don’t need a car to get where you’re going, and museums and other cultural attractions are plentiful.
  • Cascais: A town with beautiful beaches where festivals are happening all the time.
  • Coimbra: The university town, where the climate is temperate, and there is a great bar scene.

Mexico Is Far More Than A Mere Vacation Destination

mexico

There is, of course, the appeal of living in the gorgeous Yucatan Peninsula.

Mexico has so many, many beaches, as tourists well know, and being able to live near one indefinitely is an appealing thought for many people.

But Mexico boasts something else for expatriates to consider seriously.

One can engage in very luxurious living—complete with hired help—for perhaps $2500 a month in Mexico.

That’s nothing to sneeze at.

Panama Is the Country Where You Can Choose Whether to Live in The Pacific Or The Caribbean.

panama

You can go to the Caribbean coast—with more rain and gorgeous coral reefs.

Or you can go to the Pacific Coast—with great fishing, sea life, and surfing.

Either way, you’re looking at a budget of $2000 to $2650 per month, depending on whether you go the rural or the urban route.

Thailand Is an Exotic Locale Where You Can Find Adventure in Beautiful Chiang Mai

thailand

The city of Chiang Mai, located in the mountains of Northern Thailand, offers kayaking and mountain biking, as well as hikes through the jungle.

It also made to Trip Advisor’s list of best destinations in the world in 2012

If outdoor pursuits don’t attract your attention, there are also restaurants, museums, shopping, and everything else you would expect from a city.

All of this luxury can be had for $2000 to $3000 per month—not a shabby deal at all.

All in All, You Don’t Have to Be a Millionaire to Live in The Lap of Luxury

Brave souls who are willing to expand their horizons by expatriating and exploring new cultures are often rewarded with more than a broadened intellectual experience.

They may also discover that their dollar stretches further abroad than they ever dreamed it could at home.
