In a leaked internal memo, the company told employees that they stand to lose pay and ultimately their jobs. Those who continue to reject the company’s COVID-19 vaccination policy will eventually lose their jobs there.

For now, all Google employees have until December 3 to submit their vaccination status. They must also include the required documentation as proof of vaccination status. Alternatively, employees can also file for a medical or religious exemption.

Unvaccinated Employees Have January 18 Deadline To Comply

By the January 18 deadline, unvaccinated employees will undergo paid administrative leave for 30 days. After the time period, all workers who remain unwilling to vaccinate will be placed under unpaid personal leave for up to six months. If employees will still refuse vaccines after this period, the company will let them go.

According to the memo, “We expect that almost all roles at Google in the US will fall within the scope of the executive order.

Anyone entering a Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved accommodation that allows them to work or come onsite”. In addition, the memo clarified that “frequent testing is not a valid alternative to vaccination.”

Google’s Work From Home Arrangement Extended Due to Omicron Fears

Last July, Google chief executive Sundar Pichai announced that all employees will need to complete their COVID vaccines before returning to the office.

The company originally planned to reopen its offices in January of 2022. However, executives put the plans on hold earlier this month.

The resurgence of the disease due to the new spread of the Omicron variant made Google officers reconsider. Instead, they asked all employees to continue working remotely.

Other Companies Also Putting Up Strict Measures

Google remains among the large multinational companies that reimposed strict COVID-10 policies. Other firms have similarly reverted to their coronavirus work measures.

JPMorgan Chase announced last Tuesday that all unvaccinated employees will go back to working remotely. The financial firm blamed the resurgence of COVID-19 for the return to remote work. It also said the new measures make it fair for workers who chose to vaccinate.

Another firm dead set to enforce vaccine mandates is the supermarket chain, Kroger. The company said it will remove paid leave for its unvaccinated employees.

In addition, it will require workers who continually refuse vaccines a $50 health insurance surcharge to cover COVID -19 costs.
