The United States remains embroiled in high inflation rates and paralyzing high prices of goods. This includes record-high prices in fuel and food.
Meanwhile, the country is also dealing with Russia’s prolonged invasion into Ukraine as Western countries strangle the Russian economy.
The President’s public approval rating is now down three percentage points from the previous week’s poll numbers.
The 40% rating is strikingly similar to what former President Donald Trump recorded in his second year as President. Both stood at a 40% approval rating.
It’s The Economy, Stupid!
The majority of poll respondents said that the economy remains their top concern. The next one is about the war in Ukraine. Other foreign conflicts are also on the minds of Americans.
Unfortunately, Biden is failing badly on both domestic and international fronts. The decline in Biden’s approval ratings actually started back in August last year.
His mismanagement of the US military’s Afghanistan withdrawal and the rise in COVID cases helped bring down his numbers.
While Biden attempted to unite the nation under his presidency, his attempts often backfired badly. The Republicans continue to throw roadblocks at Biden’s programs at every opportunity.
As a result, Americans remain polarized on almost all major issues. Despite a 77% public approval rating from fellow Democrats, he enjoys only a 10% approval from Republicans. In the more telling vote, only 27% of independents gave Biden a positive rating.
Democrats Fearing The Midterm Elections
Now, political analysts expect Republicans to come out on top of the November midterm elections. Certainly, the President’s low approval ratings aren’t helping his party’s cause.
Right now, the Democrats hold a very slim majority in the House. At the Senate, it’s much worse. Democrats hold the tiebreaker in a chamber split evenly down the middle.
Losing either chamber to the Republicans can spell doom to Biden’s remaining legislative agenda for the next two years.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll measuring the president’s public approval rating was conducted online last March 22 and 23, 2022. The online survey produced results from 1,005 adult responders.
This includes 432 Democrats and 366 Republicans. The poll features a credibility interval – a measure of precision – of 4 percentage points.

What do you think about Joe Biden’s presidency midway through his term? Do you think that his low approval ratings will help Republicans regain the House and the Senate this year? Or, will voters overlook his failings and still vote Democrat?
