Rogan was the subject of ire by health experts and musicians over allegedly helping spread misinformation about COVID-19. Artists such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell pulled out of Spotify due to Rogan’s podcasts. In return, the popular host apologized for his conduct.

Trump Defends Joe Rogan

Meanwhile, Trump went to Joe Rogan’s defense and offered his advice on how to survive the onslaught of criticism. Speaking on his Save America PAC, the former president wants Rogan to stay true to himself. “Joe Rogan is an interesting and popular guy,” Trump said. “But, he’s got to stop apologizing to the Fake News and Radical Left maniacs and lunatics. How many ways can you say you’re sorry? Joe, just go about what you do so well and don’t let them make you look weak and frightened. That’s not you and it never will be!”

Trump gave his support to the podcast just as Spotify, where Rogan’s podcast is, reiterated their own support. Chief Executive Daniel Ek said that Rogan himself, not Spotify, decided to pull out episodes that some listeners might find offensive. This involved around 70 episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

COVID-19 Issues

Reportedly, Joe Rogan used his Spotify platform to downplay the need for coronavirus vaccines. He also used his podcast to invite guests to controversial and misleading information about COVID. As a result, some artists also associated with Spotify began pulling out their libraries in protest.  Spotify remains tied in a reportedly $100 million deal with Rogan for his entire podcast library. In fact, the host also admitted he can do better to inform his millions of listeners.

However, Rogan also had to deal with accusations of racist language during some of his episodes. A compilation video surfaced on the internet where clips of Rogan uttering racist slurs. The host did not dispute the video, saying that the video looked “horrible, even to me. ”

Regret Over Racial Slurs

Later, he added that using the slur is “the most regretful and shameful thing” he had to address publicly. “I know that to most people there is no context where a White person is ever allowed to say that word,” he said. “I agree with that now..”

Meanwhile, Ek emphasized that Rogan’s language remains “incredibly hurtful”. However,  they  “do not represent the values of this company,” and pulling the podcast would be a mistake. “I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer. We should have clear lines around content and take action when they are crossed,” Ek said. “But canceling voices is a slippery slope.”
